Intergenerational Dialogue in Central African Countries Cameroon (DIPACC)

Objective : Promote intergenerational exchanges - Sheet 1

 

Origin of the reflection

 

For several decades, the idea has often been recognized and expressed that contemporary societal evolution is likely to weaken the links between the generations, and many voices have been raised to try to remedy this by bringing the ages closer to life. .

 

In Cameroon, the organization AGCE, known for its actions in favor of social cohesion and the fight against precariousness in all its forms, launched from 2019 to 2020, two successive calls for projects aimed at developing intergenerational relations. In total, the organization has granted its supervision to 5 projects spread over the whole territory (Center, Littoral, West and East) for a total expected amount of more than 861 million to 40 billion FCFA.

 

If we stick to the socioeconomic forecasts, 30 application files were received and submitted to a committee of experts (0 in 2019 and 20 in 2020) among which, 5 were selected and are financially pending.

It is these 30 or so application files which were made available to us by young people who joined the DGPE-I Group, which served as the basis for this analysis. In Cameroon, according to age, cultural differences appear between older indigenous populations and non-native people who arrive with a new culture, without there being (yet) intergenerational conflicts. A small group of activists from the groups of National Farmers from Regions in the City (RPRV)  or not, seize the opportunity and launch the call for support for national cultural projects, the fruitful initiative in 2021, 1 (one) major project born from the associative framework that is integrated: 4 socioeconomic and health projects, 1 educational project , in particular, training and supervision of disadvantaged young people, promoting sustainable rural development on the basis of a frank private territorial dialogue, taking into account all ages - funding that would come from the organization of AGCE supported by its local and international partners - and it is from its project studies that the DGPE-I Group was born. Since 2019-2021, the organization AGCE through the DGPE-I has been holding training courses and requesting support from the government to meet all the expectations of rural communities and slums in the region, more demanding for good reason, they are more disadvantaged following the policies governments very slow to respond to individual needs and to that of associative groups, of the most vulnerable and isolated layers (women and children). In 2021, Josué SAMPA NKWEBDJEU president and co-founder of AGCE, set up a small group of experts to assess the quality of the projects to be proposed for local and international funding, in this case the 5 projects selected by the DGPE-I / "AGCE" (GLOBAL ACTION FOR CULTURE THROUGH WRITING).

Steps

Since 2015, the promoters of AGCE have made the rural populations and slums, in particular, disadvantaged young people, women and registered children, participate in regional exhibitions organized by human development experts, on the theme of cohabitation in the territories. where they animate spaces and offer activities through canons such as: literature and digital culture To invite young people as well as professionals to take an interest in it, Workshops, seminars and conferences of the general program of AGCE accompany beneficiaries every month online and in their field.

 

In 2021, the active members of AGCE are already offering three local debates, one of which will be "a large-scale cultural event, public and promoting young talents, self-employment and cultural creators, independent entrepreneurs". They are therefore looking for local partnerships to perpetuate the social, economic and cultural exchanges transmitted by the elders, by setting up a study framework with the objective of continuing to contribute to the efforts already undertaken in this sector in terms of: human development and socioeconomic promotion, the fight against poverty.

 

From 2021 to 2026, AGCE's ambitions will be to supervise groups in the Littoral and Center region, by stabilizing its technical and administrative achievements, educating its young self-employed people to create services with high added value. to boost consumption made in Cameroon, on local and international markets (downloadable and physical) and support the  development, by hiring more unemployed young people from the "AGCE Groups in Cameroon Country," to work in solidarity with the youth so that they integrate disadvantaged local and foreign people into the jobs created, develop projects of society by being learning actors, promoters and partners of practical technical innovation to overcome poverty. Two local debates are planned during the year 2021-2023 and will lead to an evaluation report each year.

The results 

Since 2015, around ten local debates have been organized with an average of forty participants per session. The reception of rural participants and local elected officials is very positive. The formerly peasant working populations and from various cultures have acquired skills of preparation and animation of educational exchange frameworks which provide well-known training courses and for which their skills are sought. It is still difficult to certify the beneficiaries on the basis of the results but we make the populations understand, how and why to become new rural members of AGCE. It is a long term job: "It is the small streams which make the great rivers", says the president.

The teachings 

Since 2015 - 2021, the organization AGCE en Pays de Cameroun has won over local elected officials and active, peasant and rural populations. The activists until then in very small number of 8 trainee Administrators and an Engineer helped by motivated people (10 volunteers and 2 staff) have acquired skills recognized as useful for activities of general interest, first in their school study, and subsequently became members of AGCE called upon for their desire to lead meetings. They were enriched by a broader vision of their Country and the culture of the activity that we lead AGCE in the field and on AGCE's multi-service professional digital economic platforms. But some members of groups, still too peasant-peasant, have difficulty reaching new, more active populations. The hard core made up of a few active members of the main group of AGCE seeks to open up, to integrate representatives of new Cameroonian, African and Western populations in the activities to reach 375,000 registrants by 2026, in order to revitalize its teams and strengthen its network of local and foreign partners from Cameroon, Africa and International.
